Viva microneedling aftercare: what to avoid first 48 hours
By BODYBRITE- Athens | October 1, 2026
In Athens, I see the best Viva (Micro-needling RF) results when you protect your skin like it’s fresh and open, because it is. The most important rule for the first 48 hours is simple: keep your skin clean and hydrated, and avoid anything that heats you up or adds bacteria, including makeup, heavy sweating, direct sun, and hot showers. A little redness is normal, and light peeling can happen too.
Quick reality check: You’ll likely leave red. One of my microneedling clients told me their redness was gone by noon the next day, and they started noticing smoother skin within about 5 days.
The first 0 to 48 hours after Viva RF: the “don’t mess this up” list
Viva is an extended 90-minute Microneedling session with radiofrequency energy. That means microchannels plus gentle heat, and your skin needs calm, clean support right away. If you’re in West Athens near Alps Road, keep in mind our humidity can make you sweat without trying, especially late summer and early fall.
Do these first
- Keep hands off your face. No picking, rubbing, or “checking” texture in the mirror.
- Cleanse gently, using lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
- Hydrate often with the post-care serum I recommend or a simple hyaluronic acid serum (no actives).
- Use a clean pillowcase and keep anything that touches your face, like masks or hats, as clean as possible.
Avoid these for 48 hours
- No makeup. You don’t want product and brushes sitting in those microchannels.
- No heavy sweating. Skip hot yoga, spin, long runs, and anything that leaves your face dripping.
- No heat. Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and very hot water can ramp up redness and swelling.
- No direct sun. Don’t “test it” with a quick walk. Sun is one of the fastest ways to sabotage tone and calm healing.
If you’re a UGA student or staff member and you’re around campus events, plan your session so you can lay low for 48 to 72 hours. In Athens, that often means avoiding outdoor tailgates or long stretches outside around the Oconee Connector when the sun is still intense.
Days 3 to 7: what “normal healing” tends to look like in real life
By the time you hit day 3, most people are calmer, but your skin is still rebuilding. Some dryness and light flaking can show up. That’s not a reason to exfoliate. It’s a reason to moisturize and let the skin do its job.
I also want you to keep expectations realistic. One microneedling client shared that their redness was gone by noon the next day, and they noticed smoothness within about 5 days. That’s a common pattern, but not a guarantee. Your starting point, sensitivity, and how well you follow microneedling RF aftercare all matter.
Keep avoiding actives for 7 to 14 days
Hold off on retinoids, AHA/BHA exfoliants, and strong vitamin C until your skin is fully settled. If you’re not sure what counts as an “active, ” send me a photo of the ingredient list or bring your products in.
And yes, sun protection is still the big one. Once you’re cleared to be outside, wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily. Avoid intentional sun for 1 to 2 weeks. Athens sun plus post Microneedling skin is not the combo you want.
Post microneedling care products: keep it boring, clean, and fragrance-free
After Viva RF, your skincare routine should feel almost too simple. This is the week to stop “chasing a glow” with strong products and let collagen-building do what it’s supposed to do.
My go-to “safe” lineup for microneedling RF aftercare
- A gentle cleanser (no fragrance, no scrub particles).
- A plain hyaluronic acid serum or the post-care serum I sent you home with.
- A simple moisturizer that won’t sting.
- Mineral SPF once you’re leaving the house and your skin is ready for it.
If you’ve done HydraFacial, Laser Hair Removal, Teeth Whitening, Body Sculpting, body tightening, or skin tightening with me before, you already know my style. I’ll tell you exactly what I’m using and why. That same clarity matters after Microneedling too, because the wrong product at the wrong time can prolong irritation.
When to call me after Viva RF, and how I help you feel confident
Normal after Viva RF can include redness, warmth, mild swelling, and a tight or dry feeling. If anything feels like it’s getting worse instead of better, I want to know. Don’t wait it out if your gut says something is off.
Reach out promptly if you notice:
- Increasing pain, not just tenderness
- Spreading redness that keeps expanding
- Pus, oozing, or a strong odor
- Fever or feeling sick

One of our regulars
I’ve been here in Athens for 8 years, and most of my long-term clients stick with me for one reason. They feel taken care of. If you’re coming in from Winterville, Bogart, Hull, Bishop, or Watkinsville, I’ll make sure you leave with a clear downtime plan that fits real life, not just a checklist.
If you’re already thinking ahead to your next session, that’s a good sign. Viva builds best in a series, and I’m happy to map out timing around classes, work shifts, and the outdoor stuff that makes Athens, well, Athens.

A simple 48-hour plan for West Athens and Alps Road schedules
If you’re near the UGA west campus and you know you’ve got sun exposure during the day, evening and weekend appointments can make aftercare easier. You go home, you keep your skin clean, and you’re not immediately stepping into heat and UV.
Try to keep the next two days light. No heavy workouts. No pool days. No “I’ll just wear a little foundation.” Give the collagen-building process a quiet window, and you’ll usually see better texture and tone as your skin settles.
