VI Peel Aftercare: Day-by-Day Dos and Don'ts for Best Results (Chemical Peels)
By BODYBRITE- Athens | August 27, 2026
VI Peel, 30 minutes | Starting at $300
If you remember one rule after a VI chemical peel, make it this: don’t pick, peel, or scrub. Let the skin shed on its own, keep it clean and hydrated with the post-peel products I send you home with, and protect it from sun every single morning. Here in Athens, that sun plus heat and humidity can sneak up fast, especially in August and September, so I’m extra picky about SPF and sweat for the first few days. Do this part well and you’ll usually see that smoother, brighter, more even look the VI Peel is known for.
First 24 to 48 hours after a peeling chemical peel: keep it calm
Right after your VI Peel, I want your plan to be boring. Clean, hydrated, protected. That’s it. Your skin is working, even if you don’t see peeling yet.
Quick rules that prevent uneven peeling: Skip makeup for at least 24 to 48 hours, avoid sweating and heavy exercise for 48 to 72 hours, and don’t use exfoliating acids or retinoids until you’re fully done peeling.
Do this
- Use only a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser and the products in your post-peel kit.
- Keep your hands off your face. If it itches or feels tight, add hydration instead of rubbing.
- Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning, even if you’re “just driving around Athens.” UV still hits through windows.
Avoid this
- Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and swimming. Heat and chlorine tend to make irritation worse.
- Hard workouts, long runs, and anything that makes you sweat a lot. Sweat plus friction is a common reason people get patchy peeling.
- Scrubs, brushes, dermaplaning at home, glycolic/salicylic products, and retinoids.
Days 3 to 7 (peeling VI Peel week): what’s normal and what ruins it
Most people don’t start visibly peeling right away. The classic window is days 3 through 7. You’ll often see it around the mouth and chin first, then cheeks, then a little around the nose. It can look dramatic, but it’s usually not “bad.” It’s just the process.
This is where patience pays off. I’ve had clients tell me they were “honestly so impressed by the results” after one visit, and that’s the feeling I want you to keep. Picking is the fastest way to turn a smooth result into irritation that lingers.
“I’m still honestly so impressed by the results, I saw such a significant difference after just one session.”

If you have flakes: pat your products on. Don’t “roll” skin off with your fingers. Keep hydration consistent, especially if you’re out in the Athens heat.
If you have events: plan your peel at least 7 to 10 days before anything photos or makeup-heavy. I love a quick appointment near West Athens and Alps Road for UGA students and staff, but peeling week still needs a little breathing room.
The simple routine that protects chemical peel results (and your wallet)
You don’t need a 12-step routine after a peel. You need consistency and restraint. I generally recommend you stick with three basics until you’re fully done shedding.
- Gentle cleanse: no acids, no scrubby texture, no cleansing devices.
- Hydrate: use the post-peel moisturizer as often as you need to stay comfortable. Tight skin usually means “add moisture, ” not “wash again.”
- SPF 30+ every morning: broad-spectrum, and reapply if you’re outside. Athens sun is no joke, even on “cloudy” days.
Hold off on retinoids, glycolics, and strong acne products until your skin feels fully back to normal. If you’re unsure, ask me before you restart anything.
When I want you to text or call us at BODYBRITE- Athens
Mild redness, dryness, and visible peeling can be normal. What I don’t want is you sitting at home wondering if something is “too much.” If you have severe swelling, blistering, intense burning, or redness that keeps getting worse instead of better, reach out to us.
A lot of people choose us because they want to feel informed and comfortable, not rushed. I hear it all the time, that someone felt “completely at ease from the moment I walked through the door” and that we “walked me through everything.” That same energy applies after your peel too. If your schedule is tight, I can usually help you plan a low-downtime week, especially for families and professionals around Athens, Winterville, Bogart, Hull, Bishop, and Watkinsville.
Planning tip: If you’re doing other services like HydraFacial, Microneedling, Teeth Whitening, Laser Hair Removal, Body Sculpting, body tightening, or skin tightening, tell me your timeline. I’ll help you space things so your skin heals evenly and you still get the results you’re paying for.
